The fruit of the land

One of my favorite activities is what I like to call 'urban foraging' where I pick and eat fruit growing on trees, usually on public property (I consider branches hanging over the sidewalk as fair game). Out here, it is probably better termed 'foraging' since the area is decidedly not near a city.

On a run this morning I smelled a variety of smells- plumeria, dust, horses, and another scent that led me to my latest foraging find. Guavas! It's a smell that immediately takes me back to childhood in Nepal, when mom would boil ripe guavas and make jelly. I looked around for the source and located a tree with yellow fruit. Definitely guavas!

Foraging count so far: mangos, pineapples, manzanitas, limes, lemons, mamones, a variety of herbs, and now guavas!
