Senses

The breeze rattling the tree branches and rustling the leaves as it precedes the rainclouds.

The sight of a sheet of rain overtaking first the islands, then the ocean in between, before hitting land over us.

The scene of the whitecaps breaking on the ocean at the demarcation between brown and blue.

The patter of rain as it hits palm fronds and heavy jungle canopy, crescendo-ing and decrescendo-ing in intensity as the clouds shift.

The radio bleeping off, then back on, as the power flickers.

The howler monkeys signaling the start of the rain as they protest to their sudden dousing with hoots and yells.

The fireflies sparkling on the ground, mirroring the stars above and the lighthouse across the water after the rainclouds have passed.

The sound of little girls shrieking with excitement and joy as they chase each other around a living room.

The squeaks of a baby as she settles into position for a nap on my chest.

The chirps of jungle creatures out after the rain.



These are the sights and sounds that punctuate my jungle life. I am grateful for the chance to enjoy and appreciate them.
