Heritage

The majority of the missionary community here is American, from the U.S.A. The grand exception is the McKenzie family who hail from Scotland. On Saturday night, St. Andrew's night, the holiday of the patron saint of Scotland, they shared some of their culture with us. It was FUN.

There was food, music, poetry, jokes, and dancing. Iain and Liz taught a dozen teenagers Scottish dances, rehearsing weekly for the last several months, and they performed the dances initially, then recruited audience members to join in after the demonstration. Most of the community ended up dancing, from ages 10 to grey-hair. What a workout! We twirled, hopped, waltzed, and bumped into each other. I heard a few people hope that this would become a yearly tradition.
