Here at Loma de Luz we have an amazing collection of surgical subspecialists who volunteer their time once or twice a year to help us with challenging cases and do difficult surgeries. They provide an amazing service to our patients and I personally have really appreciated the education they do with the general doctors. They also function as consultants throughout the year, answering emails from us about complex or confusing cases.
This month is full of these visiting surgeons and their teams. It feels like "Fleet Week" except instead of sailors we have a plethora of wheelchairs lining the hallway, people leaning on crutches or holding slings, and clusters of staff around a bed helping hold a limb in position for casting. In a couple of weeks we have a urologist coming, and the hallways fill with men carrying Foley bags, waiting for their prostate surgery. Every person generally brings with them a family member or two, and the hallways teem with people.
It's a fun game guessing which specialist is here by the accessories carried by the patients!
