The stories are epic and varied of how patients get to us. I want to give you a taste of what happens once the patient actually gets to the hospital/clinic. They are initially seen in the triage area at the front gate, then walk or are driven up the hill to the hospital.
This is the entrance, with the information desk ahead to the right where their chart is organized and prepared. To the right is the waiting room ("There's no chance of you not waiting, that's the name of the room"- Jerry Seinfeld) or sala de espera.
At the back of the waiting room is the swinging doors to the clinic rooms.
There are more seats for waiting along each hallway. This is the hallway in front of most of the consultas. Once the patients have had their vital signs taken and have been assigned to a doctor, they move from the large waiting room into one of the hallways nearest to the door of the doctor they will be seeing.

I call the patients by name into the room where I am sitting and they enter for their appointment. I do the history, exam, and pharmacy orders from here.
If there are any tests to be done, they go to the lab area (Toma de Muestra), and the lab staff then bring me back the chart once they have the results.
Once we are all done with the consulta, they then pass to the spiritual counseling office (consejeria).
From there, they go to the pharmacy, then cuentas (where their bill is tallied), then caja (where they pay their bill). Pharmacy and cuentas are in the same air conditioned room- quite the popular place to hang out on hot days!
If you look closely at the sign to the left of cajas you may be able to see the two rules of the hospital. "No smoking" and "no guns." Good rules to live by.
Caja is the last stop in their visit at Loma de Luz, and they continue off down the dusty hill.
