To give birth or be born can be said a few different ways here. The formal verb is nacer (from which we get the term here for newborn 'recien nacido' or 'recently born'). My favorite alternative/common way of saying it is dar la luz- literally 'to give the light.' What a neat word picture of birth, the infant coming into the light.
